Take this opportunity to work with Janet Balaskas in Portugal in a wonderful venue in Lisbon.
This 2 day workshop will be an unforgettable and inspiring experience, especially valuable for birth professionals: midwives and doctors, doulas and birth educators, pregnancy yoga teachers, physiotherapists, and anyone working with pregnant women.
It is an in-depth exploration of the meaning, physiology and benefits of Active Birth.
We will be working through the whole birth process, from late pregnancy, through labour and birth, until the ‘golden hours’ after the birth.
The style of Janet’s teaching is unique and very engaging. It is experiential and at the same time practical, includes detailed evidence based information and highlights up-to-date research about each topic.
The programme will include:
- New visions on the the anatomy of the pélvis
- The function of the uterus – undoing the myths of dilitation and stages of labour
- The hormonal physiology which drives the whole birth process
- The work of the mother – positions, movement, breath and focus
- The journey and participation of the baby
- The role of the partner
- The seeding of the baby’s microbiome
- Vital links to the placenta and the placental transfusion
- Immune, psycholgical and long term health benefits
You will learn by doing, through participation, with touch and movement, as well as by listening and sharing. You will be surprised at how much you take away with you and will be given guidance on how to follow through with reading and research.
Part 1 can be attended on its own as a 2 day workshop.
If you want to progress to Part 2 and learn how teach Active Birth to pregnant women and couples, it is essential to first complete Part 1.
This course will be taught in English with local translation as needed.
A Certificate of Attendance will be given to all participants at the end of the workshop. We reserve the right to refuse a certificate to anyone missing sessions or not attending any part of the workshop.

How to Teach Active Birth ©
Part 2 – Lisbon Portugal
with
Janet Balaskas and Jill Benjoya Miller
October 19/20/21 2018
Change your life – inspire and make a difference to others!
“This course has been a priceless experience which has made me grow, not only professionally but emotionally as well as on a personal level.”
“This is a course full of oxytocin and the best investment I have made in years!”
“I will never forget the unimaginable value of what you have set up through the years, the concept of Active birth, which gives me literally hope again for the human race.”
This 3 day training in addition to Part 1 is the equivalent of the Active Birth Teacher Training which has been held for many years in London. Janet and her long term colleague Jill Benjoya Miller are now able to travel and offer training in other countries and help to develop a network of Active Birth teachers.
Our aim is to spread Active Birth around the world so that women lying on their backs becomes history, as empowerment of the birthing mother grows!
Learn how to demonstrate the benefits of an Active Birth using a pelvis and doll from the person who invented it! This is only one of the amazing techniques you will learn for exciting, engaging workshops.
You will learn ways to inspire couples in a direct and simple way to understand how a woman’s body is perfectly designed for birthing, from the bony structure of the pelvis to the marvellous orchestration of the hormonal physiology.
This training programme will enable you to become a Janet Balaskas Active Birth Workshop © teacher.
It is accredited by The Federation of Ante-Natal Teachers (FEDANT).
The training is of great use to midwives teaching birth preparation and involved in facilitating Active Birth in the birthing room or doulas attending births.
Why teach Active Birth?
The concept of an Active Birth Workshop for couples was originally created by Janet Balaskas and has been taught at the Active Birth Centre for many years. This workshop is often the key to mothers and their partners finding the confidence to give birth naturally. They will be strongly motivated to take charge of their birthing and to find freedom of movement and expression.
What is required for full certification?
To become a Janet Balaskas Active Birth Workshop © Teacher (FEDANT accredited) you will need to attend and complete Part 1 and Part 2. Once certified, teachers are listed on the Active Birth Centre UK and Portugal websites.
What you will learn
This training brings you the most up-to-date information about birth physiology, Active Birth in practice, and inspirational new teaching methods. It is a highly effective and lively way to empower women and their partners to understand birth physiology and the key benefits of an Active Birth. These are practical sessions where the participants ‘learn by doing’.
Your main goals will be to:
-
Awaken the instinctive intelligence of the body.
-
Use a doll and pelvis to demonstrate the benefits and advantages of an Active Birth.
-
Introduce alternatives to lying down in labour and for birthing
-
Demonstrate how to be comfortably supported and relaxed in upright positions and how to give birth.
-
Encourage your parents to give birth actively in any birth environment – including the use of birthing pools where they are available
-
Show how breathing, self-hypnosis and deep relaxation, touch, and massage and can be applied without lying on the back.
Working with couples
This workshop fully enrols the partner by inspiring them with the common-sense logic of Active Birth. This usually comes as a revelation to them. They learn how they can be present and supportive, without being intrusive. Couples learn to work together and this provides excellent pre-birth bonding with their baby.
You will learn to offer the workshop with a minimum of 6 hours of tuition time over two or three sessions. With experience, you will also have the option to teach it in one day.
You will be given a template of the course contents and shown how to adapt it as necessary for parents so they have a positive birth experience.
If you want to learn how teach Active Birth to pregnant women and couples, it is essential to first complete Part 1 (see above).
This course will be taught in English with local translation as needed.
A certificate to teach the Janet Balaskas Active Birth Workshop © will be given to all participants at the end of the course. We reserve the right to refuse a certificate to anyone missing sessions or not attending any part of the course or in the rare circumstance of failing the teacher’s assessment.
