Dear friends, clients and colleagues
This is to let you know that the Active Birth Centre is taking a new direction. After lockdown we are no longer going to have premises at Bickerton House and instead we are developing some really amazing online opportunities to access our programme of birth preparation with Janet Balaskas, and parenting and postnatal classes with Lynn Murphy. This has grown out of our online teaching during lockdown which has shown us the many benefits of live streaming. We have been ‘zoomed’ into a new era so to speak and are very excited about the potential and opportunity this has created.
We have been at Bickerton House for 25 years and before that at other North London locations since 1986 when Janet opened the first one in her home, offering the earliest Pregnancy Yoga and Active Birth Courses. Some tell us we created an institution!
It has been a great pleasure to serve those of you who prepared for your birth with us, came to our therapy clinic and enjoyed our postnatal support. Many of you have returned for more than one baby and in some cases you yourself were the baby when your mother attended Janet’s early classes.
We also want to thank our colleagues, teachers and therapists who have worked with us, some for many years, for your association with the Active Birth Centre. You have been an essential part of the unique environment that we created and maintained for so long.
It has been a wonderful experience and a truly inspirational endeavour that we have shared together.
You have all helped us to fulfill a vision of integrated education and support from conception to toddler – the all-important primal period of life. Many of the things we pioneered, are now to be found in most neighbourhoods – so we take great pride in being instrumental in this.
We can be proud to say that during the lockdown, thanks to technology, no one missed a class and all bookings were honoured. We have made sure we have been there for our lovely pregnant, birthing and new mums and have become zoom experts in the process.
Our website is being updated constantly to reflect these changes and you can find contacts there as usual.
What hasn’t changed is our dedication and ongoing commitment to the work, and our enthusiasm as a team to be creative and find a new and different way to communicate our wonderful programme!
